Oddly enough, this little bugger is my wife's favorite brandy.  I like it too as an every-day, 'go home and relax' drink.  Warmed properly, it's actually a very nice brandy with pleasing aromas and a descent array of flavors.  At room temperature it lacks the sharp edges that usually accompany an inexpensive, un-warmed brandy (for those nights when you're pissed off and just need a shot!).

A bottle costs around $15 at the local State Liquor Store (a great price for a drink of this quality), and 750ml bottles can sometimes be had on sale for under $11!  We always keep a few on hand for casual drinking.  You should too!

Hennessy Paradis
OFFLINE

This is my favrite bottle of cognac!  My wife bought me a bottle of this for my 37th birthday and my family and I toasted with it the night before my wedding.  Warmed perfectly, it's an INSANE array of flavors and scents that has to be enjoyed in a peaceful, quiet room with no distractions or it's wasted.  To quote Nicholas Roberts,

"Paradis Extra is the fruit of a series of marriages between hundreds of different eaux-de-vie, nurtured to maturity by successive generations of the same family of cellar masters. A veritable fireworks display of spices and peppery notes, softened by the fragrant scent of flowers. Finesse and elegance are the major characteristics. Perfectly harmonious in the mouth, Paradis Extra reveals itself to be smooth, full-bodied and long-lasting on the palate. Its force and finesse, plus the delicate flavor of rancio, give it a perfect balance."

We finished my last bottle of this amazing cognac just after our wedding, but I expect to get another for Christmas this year and I will always have a bottle in my collection.  You can find it at select State Liquor Stores for around $300.  Don't bother crossing the border to get it cheaper, as privately owned Nevada liquor stores charge MORE!

Hennessy Ellipse
OFFLINE

Hennessy Ellipse is my dream bottle of cognac.  To quote Alan Gayot of Novusvinum.com,

"This ultra-special blend is the culmination of centuries of the Fillioux family's work. For this limited-edition Cognac, each master blender from seven generations of blenders in the Fillioux family noted the most exceptional eau de vie from his time in office. These eaux de vie were then blended to make the Ellipse."

The Fillioux family is seven generations deep in Hennessy cognac making.  A member of the family has been the master blender of Hennessy since the beginning!  They know their stuff, to say the least.  To have the opportunity to try a blend of the best source material from every generation of this family's work is truly special,  ...if you can find a bottle to sample (only 100 were produced).

Average going price for a bottle of this is $4,000.  If you're on a budget, the bar in the lobby of THE Hotel adjacent to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas sells sniffer tastings for only $999 per glass.  Personally, I'm inclined to save up and try to find a bottle from somone crazy enough to want to part with it.  I think the hand made, one-of-a-kind, chrystal container is worth half the asking price of a bottle anyway.
